Like many people that started in the seventies, I am self-taught. My work encompasses furniture, turning and sculpture, with an emphasis on geometric patterns and colour. Using a vast range of native and exotic timbers, which span the colours of the rainbow, gives me the opportunity to create truly unique works.

I have my grandfather to thank for my early introduction to working with timber. At the age of ten I turned my first bowl on his lathe, which came out from the UK on the first ship (The Island Queen) to the Australind settlement in 1842. Little did he know, he had set the seed for a career that would not start for another eighteen years.

I have been in over 180 exhibitions around the world and in 1994 won a Churchill Fellowship. Where I travelled to the USA and Canada working with some of the top craftsmen in the field.

Ten years ago I built my own gallery/studio, which has a vast range of items from in expensive gifts to exclusive artworks and furniture. I now work with my eldest son Brendon who produces work in his own right.

“….. At only 21 years of age, he is one of the most promising young designer-makers working with wood in Australia today.”

West Australian Crafts Council

Brendon is currently producing a vast range of contemporary jewellery made from unique timbers and silver, which can be purchased from the studio and many outlets through out Western Australia . In 1998 he was one of 7 finalists (out of over 900) in the Dolly/McDonalds Career Start competition and last year had three of his turned bowls featured in “ 500 Wooden Bowls” a book published in New York on woodturning from around the world.
