Steve has been working as a metalsmith/artist/teacher since 1986 and is recognized as one of West Australia’s leading metal artists and educators.
Shortly after completing his first degree he was awarded a Traineeship to work with master silversmith George Lucas. He work with George until he completed his Masters Degree in 1993 , at which time he established his own workshop. This time nurtured his growth as a respected and competent jeweller/metalsmith.
Steve exhibits his jewellery and hollow-ware both nationally and internationally and has won several awards and been acquired by many private collectors and purchased for several public collections, the most notable being the Parliament House collection in Canberra. In 2002 he was one of only 29 artists to be selected to exhibit in “Boundless” at the Art Gallery of W.A. This was a major survey of art from regional W.A.
His influence on the metal community has been extended through his association and Presidency of the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia , W.A. branch and through his teaching. He has taught jewellery , metalsmithing and design at various Tafe Colleges and for a short time at Curtin University. He taught at the West Coast College of Tafe, Carine from 1992 till 1998. During this time he contributed to the development of the Diploma Course in Jewellery and Metalsmithing and was head of the Jewellery Department before relocating his workshop to Margaret River in 1999.
