In painting my interpretations of the light, moods, solitude and atmospheres of the ocean, beaches, forests and people of this vibrant area, I find myself drawn to express the wonderful sense of feeling that you find as you travel to the different places within this region
My studio is situated just seven minutes to the west of Margaret River Townsite, in a bush land setting, nestled among tall Jarrah and Marri trees giving me a wonderful environment to produce my artworks that reflect the surrounds that I live in.
Some of my early influences Andrew Wyath who works in tempera, finely produced and coloured realist studies in light and shadow, emphasising meaning and story.
The Byam Shaw School of Art in its underlying compositional and emotional aspects of painting and the Impressionists, especially Monet in his seeking to achieve atmosphere through the use of light and shadow, and later moving to emphasise mood and effects.
I work in Oil and acrylic, but also do some Pastel and Watercolour, working predominately from dark to light, using complementary colours for light/shadows and atmospheric effects, and directions for form and flow.
