Artist Potter. Individually designed pieces in porcelain and stoneware.
I discovered clay as a young child, fashioned it into shapes and
'fired' them in the wood stove to harden them. It took another 20
years before I returned to it, this time as a young mother. It was an
instant connection to a material that had continued to engage and
inspire me for 35 years.
Initially there are many technical challenges to master which
requires passion and focus to develop the creative skills to express
oneself unconsciously and freely. The soft nature of clay affords the
opportunity to play with texture,:form: light and shade:energy and
movement.....The surface can be painterly smooth ,rough angular or
soft. ..the variations are endless.
I gain a lot of inspiration from collected fragments and objects
gathered over the years I often saw and photographed these - mainly in
close focus. This becomes my reference material for future works.
Since moving to the S.W region in 2003,I have had a break while
building a new house ans studio.
I have now re-established my
ceramic practice, and explore the coastal environment for renewed
inspiration. I look forward to meeting you soon.
