Wild Art Images & Sculptural Jewellery.

Dunsborough artist Leonie Mac Lean's new works have a photographic base.
Leonie has combined her skill as a photographer, her artist's eye and her love for our local flora to produce a series of works that showcase the extensive variety of this region's wild orchids.

The wildflower images are presented on a variety of media from archival photographic papers and fabrics through to canvas.
These new works have been a few years in the making and have required many field trips into the local environment photographing our region and wild orchids.
Many of the images have been photographed in the bush surrounding the property where Leonie lives.

Leonie studied sculpture and printmaking at Claremont School of Art in the 1990's.
These disciplins have transformed beautifully into her artistic sculptural jewellery.

One of her sculpture teachers was a blacksmith who taught Leonie how to forge metals.
This has inspired her textured and hammered surfaces.
Leonie also uses unusual printing techniques and materials on her silver work.
Roller printing with shed Blue Tongue Lizard skin & snake skins.
Or using lace and embossed fabrics, dried leaves & cut hair.
These leave amazing patterns which are used in Leonie's original designs.

Leonie makes unique one of pieces, as she doesn't produce designs in mass production.
Though some themes do run through Leonie's work, such as the celebration of the feminine & using the Earth Goddess form and symbolism.
Many designs are from elements in nature or everyday life.

Leonie loves to use 925 Sterling Silver in her work.
Sometimes using other base metals, found objects, stones, beads and chrystals.

Leonie has just set up a new studio space where you can view her images and jewellery.

Leonie has some fantastic contemporary photographic designs suitable for the modern home available to order. As well as having mounted prints, framed or unframed, beautiful prints on canvas, Leonie also makes cards, T-shirts and some soft furnishings.

Leonie sells from her studio or exhibition spaces.

Commissions will be undertaken.......

Artist Statement

My interests in feminine archetypes has led me to study myth and legend.
Particularly early matriarchal religions with their emphasis on the Earth Goddess.
Within my work I have been combining and developing these ideas with my concerns about women, emancipation and the feminist movement.
The aim is to use my personal experiences together with these explorations to develop a cyclic interpretation of our existance.

One of birth, life, death and rebirth.
